Finding a Good Thing

Proverbs 8:22

He who finds a wife finds a good thing

and obtains favor from the LORD.

My wife and I have been quite disconnected lately. We have entered a season where big things have happened and have affected us both greatly. We both are feeling hurt and unseen and are, on a grander scale, just missing each other. But through it all, she’s my best friend and I want to do right by her and love her the best I can.

I realize my part to play in a lot of this is based on selfish tendencies and not making her feel seen or heard. Sometimes it’s hard to provide a safe space for someone when you aren’t feeling safe yourself. I have been more worried about advocating for myself recently, and as important as that is, I have learned there comes a time where the advocating for myself overshadows seeing my wife.

This verse was part of my reading this morning. I am reminded that I am blessed to have found someone to share the rest of my life with. I chose this woman to be my companion, my confidant, my best friend. I am reminded that I have found something very good, and I should cherish that.

If you’re married, especially if things are hard right now, remember why you married your wife. There’s a commitment that was made on both ends. God blessed you with a good thing. Cherish your best friend. Love your wife. Be encouraged to appreciate her today, and every day.

May God bless you.
